Parents Discover Unexpected Benefits at Magnuson Christian School

Private school searches usually include a checklist: quality academics, small class sizes and one-on-one teacher access. But for many Magnuson Christian School families, the profound impact that the teachers have had on shaping the faith and character development of their children turns out to be the reason why they stay.

“When our family started looking into educational alternatives for our then 1st and 3rd graders, we didn’t know what we were looking for entirely,” said MCS mom, Jennifer Pelant. “At Magnuson, small class sizes, one-on-one access to teachers and quality education were all easy boxes to check. We knew Magnuson was a faith-based school, as well, but we weren’t sure what that looked like, and how it applied to what we were seeking.”

Pelant continued, “We found out quickly that the extra piece we sought was satisfied in the huge heart behind the Magnuson family. This school loves and nurtures each of their students and points them to Jesus. It’s overwhelming how much blessing we’ve experienced in ways we never expected. The education here is absolutely excellent, and we have been very satisfied with it, but faith is the fabric, and that is what continues to overwhelm us.”

“Everyone seems to be under the impression that good values come from the parents and that schools should stay out of the morality business. I couldn’t disagree more with that notion,” said parent of 4th and 5th grade MCS students, Nick Hudson. “Kids spend most of their day at school. We knew we wanted a school that would mold our children’s character and reinforce the values that we were trying to teach them at home.”

Hudson added, “Just a few months after switching our son from public school to MCS, we were noticing that he was the one saying prayers before dinner and before bed. We noticed that he was the one humbly thinking about others when we were selfishly thinking about how we could better our own lives. There was one particular moment when I remember my grade school son having a conversation with a friend about how even the smallest particle in the world could not simply come from nothing, and that there had to be a good God to bring justice where the world could not provide it.”

MCS Parent Nicole Nelson adds, “We appreciate that our kids are held to biblical standards in the way they conduct themselves, learning valuable life lessons in respecting authority and their peers, exercising self-control and developing self discipline. Magnuson is truly dedicated to encouraging growth of the whole child, and we see that evidenced in how our children have grown in both intellect and character over the years. When most kids can’t wait for summer, our kids are disappointed when the last day of school arrives!”

Magnuson Christian School is located at 4000 Linden Street, White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
